How can ocean data better support science, policy, operational services, and sustainable management in the Mediterranean Sea?
As part of the EU BioGeoSea project, Work Package 4 is inviting the ocean community to contribute to a survey on biogeochemical Essential Ocean Variables (EOVs) and related data products in the Mediterranean Sea.
We are seeking input from scientists, technicians, data managers, environmental practitioners, marine professionals, policymakers, and anyone who uses or relies on ocean data products.
The survey aims to better understand:
• which biogeochemical data products are currently used by the community
• how accessible, usable, and reliable these products are
• where important gaps remain
• what should be prioritized for future data products, models, and indicators
Your input will directly support BioGeoSea Deliverable D4.2, focused on the current status, needs, and gaps for the development of Mediterranean biogeochemical data synthesis products.

This activity is carried out within Work Package 4: Global and Regional EOV Mapping and Data, which works to integrate global and regional observations and support high-quality information on key biogeochemical variables, including oxygen, nutrients, inorganic carbon, nitrous oxide, and methane.
The work is coordinated by Maribel I. García-Ibáñez, Marilaure Grégoire, and Malek Belgacem, together with BioGeoSea partners across Europe, including the Université de Liège, GEOMAR Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung Kiel, ETH Zurich, Instytut Oceanologii PAN, CSIC, and International Ocean Carbon Coordination Project (IOCCP).
