Project structure

Work Packages

WP 1 – Advancing biogeochemical EOVs and indicators

  • Update and harmonise GOOS biogeochemical EOV specifications.
  • Develop and validate new ocean indicators on key BGC processes.
  • Improve observing practices and align with global frameworks (OBPS, WMO RRR).

WP 2 – Advancing observations, integration and understanding of ocean biogeochemical processes

  • Connect EOVs across physical, biogeochemical, and biological systems.
  • Integrate observations from multiple platforms for better ocean insights.
  • Improve data quality through innovation and standardisation.

WP 3 – Advancing the biogeochemical ocean components of ESMs

  • Improve the representation of marine processes driving BGC EOVs and indicators in ESMs.
  • Enhance simulations by combining model outputs and observations through data assimilation.
  • Deliver improved multidecadal products to monitor, detect, and project trends and changes in ocean health.

WP 4 – Global and regional mapping and data

  • Improves access to high-quality ocean biogeochemical data at regional and global scales.
  • Uses advanced mapping tools to create reliable ocean data products.
  • Explores the links between biogeochemical, physical, biological, and human impact EOVs.

WP 5 – European leadership, exploitation and legacy

  • Build and share a cloud platform for real-time ocean indicators.
  • Boost uptake of results in science, industry, and policy.
  • Connect experts, engage stakeholders, and shape policy impact.

WP 6 – Project coordination and management

  • Ensure efficient management, communication, and reporting.
  • Connect with related projects and European initiatives.
  • Support cross-domain collaboration and knowledge exchange.

WP 7 – Ethics requirements

  • Advise partners on identifying and addressing ethics issues.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards across all activities.
  • Provide independent ethics reports for each project phase.
